Man Utd activate Harry Maguire’s contract extension clause

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the club have triggered a one-year contract extension clause in Harry Maguire’s contract.

The centre-back recently entered the final six months of his current contract revealed his happiness over the early discussions about the extensiondescribing the situation as “positive”.

While these conversations are going on, United they have decided to trigger an extension clause to ensure Maguire cannot leave for free this summer.

“Harry Maguire, we will run our option,” Amorim told the assembled media ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.

“I spoke to him this morning and I told him he has to improve on the pitch, we need him a lot. Also, he has to improve as a leader. We all know the situation he’s had here, but we really need him at the moment, so we’re going to start, luckily, an option for him.

“When you look at our team, we’re starving for leaders on the field. He’s a leader, he’s got to improve that part, he’s got to improve his game, so we’re happy to continue.”

Amorim also confirmed that Amad Diallo is “close” to signing a new contract. The young striker’s current deal runs until the summer but, like Maguire, United can trigger a one-year extension if necessary.
