Manchester City were in touch with £50 million Premier League star, however, wants to join rivals Liverpool instead.
Man City is hunting numerous January signings
The citizens had a difficult season in 2024/25 Premier League campaign by its high standards under Pep Guardiolawith a midweek draw at Brentford the latest setback after holding a two-goal lead in the second half.
Those behind the scenes at the Etihad seem unusually willing to splash the cash in January as a result. Talking at the beginning of the month, Guardiola admitted that City must be “wise” in the winter window when it comes to new signings.
“I don’t know now, it’s not easy. It won’t be easy. Maybe we sign, maybe we don’t sign anyone. The club must be wise. Don’t do it just to do it.
“We want to add players because of the situation we are in because players have constant injuries many times. The club has to do it, but I’m not sure if it will be possible.”

Three main targets appear to have been identified: Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush and Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis.
Allegedly, the signing of the contract has been agreed Khusanov and Reiswhile Chase-leading Txiki Begiristain leads City’s pursuit of Marmoush’s signature. If City sign all three targets, their spending will quickly exceed £100m at the start of 2025, but it doesn’t look like it will stop there.
Man City are also thought to be in the best position to sign Real Valladolid defender Juma Bachand the second target at the back is Bournemouth’s left back Miloš Kerkez.
However, City, despite being in talks to sign the Premier League star, may find it difficult to secure a deal following the recent update.
According to The and Man City was in contact with the representatives of Kerkez hold talks about a potential move to Etihad.
The Cherries value the Hungarian international at £50m, however, Kerkez wants to move to Liverpool at this stage instead of Man City or Man Utd.

Liverpool director of football Richard Hughes was the man who brought Kerkez to England during his time at the Vitality Stadium, something that plays a part in his current preference for a move to Anfield.
The 21-year-old has been in fine form for Bournemouth this season and is being touted as the next Andy Robertson, however, if City want to, they will be able to persuade him to move to Manchester instead of Merseyside, something that doesn’t look likely at this stage.
