Man City are preparing a January move for Liverpool’s £50m target
Manchester City have been described as “pushing” to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush during January transfer window.
Marmoush has a combined 30 goals and assists in 24 appearances for Frankfurt in all competitions this season, with his 13 Bundesliga goals trailing only Harry Kane (14) in the top-scoring charts.
The Telegraph it says that CityThe interest is motivated by Pep Guardiola’s desire to inject fresh energy into a team that has suffered a dismal run in recent months. The club reportedly believe Marmoush is suited to the Premier League because of his pace and versatility – he played as a ‘number nine’, ‘number ten’ and on the left for Frankfurt during the first half of the campaign.
Liverpool they were previously the club most linked with Marmoush this season, potentially as a replacement for the compatriot Mohamed Salah or competition to the inconsistent Darwin Nunez. Manchester United and Arsenal are also among the sides being linked with the 25-year-old.
The Egyptian could cost £50m. But while there was resistance in Frankfurt to his mid-season departure, it was already looking increasingly likely that he would move before 2025/26.
The Bundesliga side have previously been open in acknowledging their status as a club that will primarily develop and sell players. In that sense, Marmoush didn’t cost them anything when he arrived as a free agent in 2023 after a lackluster spell at Wolfsburg and is expected to bring in big earnings.
“Ultimately, with many players who come to us, we offer them an environment where they can develop further – knowing full well that we would let them go if they develop faster than the club itself,” sporting director Markus Krosche revealed in November.
“This is the deal we made with the boys. That’s why we have the opportunity to sign so many exciting players, because they realize they can take the next step in Frankfurt.”
Referring to past deals such as Randal Kolo Muani’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 for €90 million, Krosche noted: “Decisions like this have to be made from a global perspective. It’s not just about sporting things, it’s about more – namely the club as a whole.
“We have a certain market value in mind for each of our players. And if a club comes along that pays this, we will let the player go. We always try to be ready for this possibility.”
