Ipswich vs Man City: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Manchester City travel again this weekend as they face Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

With Pep Guardiola accepting that his side will not secure their fifth league title this season, the Spaniard will consider his priorities with a key Champions League match with Paris Saint-Germain on the horizon.

After giving up a two-goal lead going into the last leg against Brentford on Wednesday, City are sixth in the table and could be eighth by the time the game kicks off at Portman Road.

Ipswich are enjoying a run in the top flight after celebrating back-to-back promotions and they are the most likely of the newly promoted sides to stay in the division. However, they failed to capitalize on Wolves’ defeat at Newcastle in midweek as they were beaten 2-0 at home to Brighton.

Kieran McKenna’s side are in 18th place heading into Sunday’s game, but City’s fallibility means they have to believe there could be a turnaround.

Here 90 minutes game review.

Ipswich was the busiest Premier League club in the January transfer window so far, and new arrivals Ben Godfrey and Jaden Philogene could start on Sunday. Philogene has just finished his move from Aston Villa.

Omari Hutchinson has recovered from a groin injury in time to face Brighton and should be involved from the start here. However, Sammie Szmodics is working it out with an ankle problem.

Kalvin Phillips is not eligible to face his parent club as he arrived on loan this summer. He joins Conor Chaplin, Chiedozie Ogbene and Axel Tuanzebe on the sidelines.

Predicted line-up of Ipswich against Man City (4-2-3-1): Walton; O’Shea, Godfrey, Greaves, Davis; Cajuste, Morsy; Phylogene, Hutchinson, Clarke; Delap.

Ruben Dias and Oscar Bobb are back in training, although we may have to wait a little longer to see the latter back in action given the length of his absence. Dias could return to the matchday squad this weekend.

John Stones is also edging closer to a return but will not feature at Portman Road. Rodri is out for the long haul.

Savinho has impressed down the left in recent weeks, with Phil Foden scoring twice at Brentford, but Guardiola must keep one eye on City’s crucial upcoming Champions League clash against PSG.

Kyle Walker will remain excluded from the team until his future is resolved.

Predicted line-up of Man City against Ipswich (4-1-4-1): Ortega; Lewis, Akanji, Ake, Guardiol; Gundogan; Bernardo, McAtee, Foden, Doku; Haaland.

City remain a defensively vulnerable unit in transition, and their box defense has suffered in the absence of Ruben Dias.

So Liam Delap and company should back themselves to have some fun on Sunday. However, the visitors have also changed their attacking tempo of late and it’s hard to imagine a well-organised but talent-depleted Ipswich side keeping them at bay this weekend.

Haaland ran riot in the reverse fixture and was able to celebrate his new nine-and-a-half-year deal in style at Portman Road.

Prediction: Ipswich 1-3 Man City
