Sporting CP made a decision on the January sale
Sporting CP has no plans to sell striker Viktor Gyokeres in January transfer window, according to reports in Germany.
The 26-year-old joined the Portuguese giants in 2023 in a club-record transfer worth €20m but is now thought to be worth five times that after developing into one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers in the 18 months since.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid all have been heavily linked with Gyokeres, with the former now managed by former Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, but the Swede is unlikely to start in January.
Sky Sport German Florian Plettenberg reports that Sporting CP have no plans to part ways with Gyokeres this month, despite further interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Gyokeres has scored a sensational 21 goals in just 17 Premier League appearances this season, adding nine more in all competitions to take his tally for the season to 30. His relentless run of form follows a scintillating debut season in which he scored 43 goals as Sporting CP won title at a gallop from rivals Benfica.
Those interested in signing Gyokeres are unlikely to be discouraged by Sporting’s stance, as a summer transfer is always likely to be a more viable option, but it does increase the likelihood that some of Europe’s other leading goalscorers will make moves.
Lille’s Jonathan David could be available at a cut-price in January – his contract expires at the end of the season – while Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani is likely to make a new move after failing to become a regular for Luis Enrique.
