Immanuel Feyi-Waboso: England winger ruled out of Six Nations with shoulder injury | Rugby Union News
England winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso will miss the entire Six Nations with a dislocated shoulder sustained on club duty for Exeter last month.
Feyi-Waboso will undergo surgery on the wrist he injured against Sale on December 21, which will rule him out for around three months, the PA news agency has learned.
The 22-year-old is one of England’s most dangerous players with a strike rate of five tries in eight matches and, had he been fit, would have been automatically selected for the opening Six Nations against Ireland on February 1.
Aside from the failure of Steve Borthwick’s hopes of overseeing a Championship rebuild after a poor autumn, Feyi-Waboso has been denied the most important stage of all to stake his claim to British and Irish Lions selection.
Andy Farrell takes the Lions to Australia this summer and the Chiefs finisher has been front and center in the race for one of the back three spots due to his impact since making his Test debut in last year’s Six Nations.
He was also forced to sit out games against South Africa and Japan in November after suffering concussion against Australia.
His absence stretches England’s back-three resources, with George Furbank likely to miss the start of the Championship with a broken arm.
Ollie Sleightholme and Tom Roebuck will compete to fill the vacant wing, although the former limped off in Northampton’s win over Bath on Sunday.
Borthwick names his Six Nations squad next Tuesday, with the head coach set to turn England’s fortunes around as his position after a disappointing 2024 is closely watched.
France without Ollivon for the Six Nations
France winger Charles Ollivon will also miss the Six Nations with a knee problem.
The 31-year-old is set to undergo surgery after picking up the injury during the early stages of Toulon’s 36-24 Top 14 win over Racing 92 on Saturday. He will be sidelined for the rest of the season.
Posting on Instagram, Ollivon, who has 46 Test caps, wrote: “I have to stop doing what I love right now and I’m going to undergo surgery soon. I’m 200 percent behind the team as of now before I can join next season.”
France begin the Six Nations on Friday 31 January with a visit to Wales at the Stade de France in Paris.
