ICC rankings: Rohit Sharma falls further after BGT horror; Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah retained the top spot


Indian star Ravindra Jadeja maintained his top spot at the top of the latest ICC rankings for Test all-rounders, released by the game’s governing body on Wednesday (January 22).

The spin-bowling all-rounder played in the last three Tests of the five-match series against Australia. In the Brisbane Test, Jadeja played a crucial knock of 77 runs despite going wicketless with the ball. In the Melbourne Test, he took 4 wickets, including 3 wickets in the first innings, while scoring 19 runs.

The Indian all-rounder ended the series by scoring 39 runs in the final Test and remaining wicketless with the ball. After his performance in Australia, he managed to retain his top spot in the ICC rankings. Jadeja tops the ICC rankings with 400 points. He is followed by Marco Jansen from South Africa (294) and Mehidy Hasan from Bangladesh (263).

Rohit Sharma drops in ICC rankings:

Among the batsmen, Indian captain Rohit Sharma paid the price for his horror show with the bat in Australia. The right-handed batsman missed the first Test in Perth before playing the next three Tests. He also decided not to play in the fifth and final Test in Sydney due to his poor form.

In the three Tests, Rohit scored just 31 runs with a top score of 10 runs. After the poor display, Rohit slipped one place to 43rd in the ICC Test batsmen’s rankings. His teammate and former India skipper Virat Kohli also remained outside the top 25 in the ICC rankings. Kohli, however, moved up one place to 26th.

Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel has made a big jump in the latest ICC rankings after his impressive performance against the West Indies in the first Test. The left-handed batsman scored 84 runs in the first innings to jump three places to No.8 ahead of Steve Smith (9) and Rishabh Pant (10).

England star Joe Root currently tops the ICC Test batsmen’s list with 895 points. He is followed by his English teammate Harry Brook (876) and New Zealand star Kane Williamson (867).

Among bowlers, India’s leading paceman Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the pack. With a career-best score of 908, Bumrah tops the ICC rankings for Test bowlers. He is followed by Australian Pat Cummins (841) and South African Kagiso Rabada (837).

Pakistan pacer Noman Ali moved up the rankings after taking six wickets against the West Indies. He broke into the top 10. His teammate Sajid Khan also improved his position, climbing 18 places to 23rd.
