‘He’s not afraid of anyone’ – Iwobi hails Fulham’s ‘brotherhood’ as Cottagers continue to improve under Silva

Alex Iwobi has described Fulham as “one big brotherhood” and says his team-mates do not fear anyone in the Premier League.

The Nigerian midfielder, who is enjoying an impressive campaign under Marco Silva, believes the positive atmosphere on and off the pitch has been key to the players’ performance.

At 28, Iwobi has already equaled his Premier League best of five goals, equaling last season’s tally with half a season to go.

Additionally, the ever-present midfielder provided three assists and had a strong impact on Fulham’s streak.

“We really fight for each other,” Iwobi said BBC.

“You can see it on the field, but off the field what the cameras don’t catch is that we really are one big brotherhood.

“It’s a nice environment, the chemistry is really good and I feel like that’s helping us get the results we need.”

Fulham currently sit eighth in the Premier League, just three points behind fifth-placed Newcastle United and are on an impressive seven-match unbeaten run.

Iwobi credits manager Silva for fostering a “sense of togetherness” that drives the team forward.

“I feel like [I am] just expressing myself a bit more,” Iwobi added.

“The manager gives me that license and freedom to try and get more chances to score. Even if I make a mistake, he says, ‘Alex, go again.’

“Having his confidence, [and] my teammates support me, you seem to feel almost unstoppable. You’re willing to try to do anything on the field.”

Fulham have not finished higher than 10th in the Premier League since the 2011-12 season.

However, with the team playing at such a high level, Iwobi is optimistic about their chances of breaking through to the European places.

“We have the players and I haven’t played in Europe for a long time, so it’s a dream I want to achieve again,” he said.

“We are not afraid of anyone. We are confident that we can compete against anyone and take the three points. The sky is the limit.”
