Who will be Canada’s next leader?
Canada Justin Trudeau announced his resignation as prime minister on Monday, with his Liberal Party in turmoil amid falling poll numbers and an election on the horizon.
Whoever takes the lead in the unpopular ruling party will become the next prime minister, and that person must grapple with the rising cost of living, the immigration crisis and President-elect Trump’s aggressive economic push — not to mention the challenge of Canada’s surging Conservative Party in the next election that will to be held in October at the latest.
The next leader of the Liberal Party will be chosen in a national leadership contest, it is said Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Party president Sachit Mehra said on Monday that he would call a meeting “to be held this week to begin the national democratic process of selecting a new party leader”.Read more
