Comedian attacks CNN’s low ratings during New Year’s Eve special
Stand-up comedian Whitney Cummings poked fun at CNN’s low ratings during a live New Year’s Eve special.
While appearing on CNN’s long-running show “New Year’s Eve live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen” on Tuesday night, Cummings joked about the cable news channel’s thin audience.
“Now I’m doing shows to 3,000 people, which is about the viewership of CNN these days,” the comic said during the program.
Cummings excavation it came just two hours before the ball dropped in New York City’s Times Square on Tuesday night. She softened the blow, adding: “But not this show. All eyes are on this show.”
The hosts, Bravo’s Andy Cohen and longtime CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, appeared to take Cummings’ punch lightly. “Nice, nice,” Cooper replied with a laugh, while Cohen remarked, “You’re all hot today.”
Continuing to play, Cooper mentioned that he and Cohen had done a tour together that had audiences similar in size to Cummings’ tour. “We made it like 3,000 people,” he said.
The comic’s joke was definitely targeted by the network which drew criticism, who lost a huge portion of viewers following the victory of President-elect Donald Trump.

In the two weeks after Trump’s victory, CNN posted double-digit percentage declines across all key metrics, dropping 33% in total viewers compared to its 2024 average, losing 39% in the demo and 36% of its already small primetime audience.
During the first week of December, CNN’s primetime programs “Anderson Cooper 360,” “The Source with Kaitlan Collins” and “CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip” averaged just 367,000 viewers from 8 to 11 p.m. By comparison, Fox News Channel averaged 2.5 million total viewers in prime time during the same period.
Those numbers put CNN in 17th place among prime time cable stations that week. Food Network’s primetime had a larger audience during that same period.
Elsewhere during her appearance on CNN, Cummings blasted the entertainment industry for lecturing Americans.

When asked about her new gig hosting streaming service Max’s Friends-themed trivia show, Fast Friends, and whether she’s a fan of the iconic ’90s sitcom, she replied, “You know what, I’m a fan.” a friend. I’m also a fan of fun that just entertains. Everything in Hollywood has to teach people how to vote make you feel guilty about global warming.”

“It’s just a fun show, no chills. It’s just warm, wholesome,” the comic added.
