Cameron Green delivers the biggest news for the Australian team after the qualifier against South Africa
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has started training after a successful surgery which saw him miss the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It is a huge boost for Australia ahead of the World Test Cup final against South Africa in June 2025.
Green shared the post on Instagram while jogging around the cricket ground and seemed perfectly calm. Australia head coach George Bailey was hoping for Green’s availability for the WTC final to be played at Lord’s.

Cameron Green continues training after surgery
Cameron Green posted a video on his Instagram profile which was good news for Australian fans. Being one of the most important players on the team, Green has the skills to be valuable with both bat and ball.

Green was an all-format player for Australia before he was injured during the tour of England in September 2024. He had successful stress fracture surgery in October 2024 and was automatically ruled out of any form of professional cricket for at least six months.
As a result, he missed Australia’s crucial Test against India in November. However, Australia did not feel his absence as the rest of the players stepped up and led their team to a dominant win over the tourists.
George Bailey confirms Cameron Green’s return for the WTC Final
Australia head coach George Bailey is hopeful of Cameron Green’s availability for the WTC final against South Africa in June. However, he made it clear that Green can only be available as a specialist hitter for now.
“I am very hopeful that he will be available as a batsman for the World Test Championship final,” Bailey told reporters.

Australia confirmed their place in the WTC final by defeating India in the fifth Test in Sydney. It will be their second consecutive WTC final as they are also the defending champions.
The importance of Cameron Green in the Australian Test team
Green was first choice in the Australian Playing XI test before the operation. He scored a magnificent 174* while batting at No.4 against New Zealand in Wellington as Steve Smith opened the batting.
However, Smith moved back to No.4 in the recent Test series against India. That means Green can slot in at No. 6 whenever he returns. In his absence, Mitchell Marsh played as the only all-purpose fast bowler in the Playing XI.
However, Marsh pulled out of the final Test in Sydney due to poor form. In his absence, Beau Webster made an outstanding debut and played the all-rounder’s role to perfection scoring 57 and 39* in both innings.
