California residents near Castaic Lake are being encouraged to evacuate following the Hughes Fire in LA County
A forest fire broke out recently Los Angeles County on Wednesday, prompting California officials to issue an evacuation order.
The Hughes Fire, which was first reported Wednesday morning, is located in the unincorporated community of Castaic in northwest Los Angeles County. As of noon local time, the fire was 0% contained and had burned more than 3,400 hectares.
Aerial footage shows smoke billowing near Castaic Lake, a reservoir in the Sierra Pelona Mountains.
The new blaze comes amid a deadly wildfire season in the Golden State, as firefighters battle devastating wildfires in Southern California for weeks.
The Pacific Palisades Fire, which started on January 7, is still burning and has claimed at least 11 lives and more than 6,500 structures.

According to Cal Fire, residents in four regions near the Hughes Fire are being urged to leave immediately. These include proximity to Castaic Lake, Paradise Ranch and the Ridge Route.
“Imminent threat to life. This is a legal order to LEAVE IMMEDIATELY,” the warning read. “The area is legally closed to public access.”

Other nearby residents, such as those living near Charlie Canyon and Sloan Canyon, were warned to evacuate but were not ordered to do so. This also includes local residents living near Green Hill Drive and Bitter Canyon.
Residents are encouraged to visit CAL FIRE website to determine if they should evacuate.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department is actively fighting the fire.
