Bears’ Caleb Williams reveals he was ‘furious’ after Ben Johnson’s catfishing prank
Chicago Bears running back Caleb Williams said he was “furious” after several kids pranked him into believing Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson had accepted the Bears’ head coaching job.
Williams went viral this week after a video surfaced showing a group of young kids texting him as Johnson.
The starting quarterback, believing the kids, hopped into a FaceTime call, where the prank was revealed.
Williams appeared to laugh off the encounter during the call, but in an appearance on the “St. Brown” podcast with Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, he revealed how upset he was after the prank.

“I was getting texts that whole night. I was obviously getting spam calls from all my friends, like, ‘No way,'” Williams recalled. “I didn’t answer a single text. I was so angry. Pissed off!”
Williams said he knew the kids were filming and was “trying not to freak out,” but it was a different story when he hung up.
“When I got done with the call, I was furious. I wanted to smash somebody with… I was furious,” he said, laughing about it.

Williams doesn’t know how they got hold of his number, which he claims he’s had for at least 15 years.
“The text was so official. Like I got that text from college coaches and other coaches before I got drafted and all that. … It looked crazy professional,” Williams said, adding that he has since changed his phone number.
“I don’t know. I’ve had the number for probably 15 years. I don’t have it anymore. New number. But I’ve had it for 15 years and so. I don’t know. Someone must have given it to them, someone must have said something or they were lucky and just called the number. ”

Despite his immediate reaction to the prank, Williams acknowledged the young fans.
“I’m not going to lie. It was a classic prank. It was an A-class, S-pillar prank. Gotta give them props. I wasn’t locked in at that point.”
