Bath’s Ollie Lawrence apologizes for his part in Alex Mitchell’s mistake in Premiership game with Northampton | Rugby Union News
Ollie Lawrence has apologized for his role in the incident which led to England team-mate Alex Mitchell being sent off Bath’s Gallagher Premiership defeat at Northampton on Sunday.
Lawrence and Mitchell clashed heads when the Saints clashed at Franklin’s Gardens, with the Bath center crumpling to the ground clutching his face after the collision.
Referee Anthony Woodthorpe booked Mitchell before Lawrence smiled at the decision as his team-mate Finn Russell prepared to take the penalty.
After accusations of exaggeration, Lawrence used his X counts to express his remorse.
I apologize if my actions today offended anyone, he wrote. “On examination, I understand the frustration expressed! I will get better.”
Lawrence had earlier annoyed the home crowd with a late shoulder tackle on George Hendy that sent the full-back out of action.
Saints beat Bath 35-34 as Fin Smith converted a penalty, handing the leaders only their second defeat of the season.
Bath had inflicted a record 68-10 defeat on Saracens a week earlier.
