Arsenal are now competing with Man Utd to sign new £8m goalkeeper Senne Lammens

Since 2025 is ongoing and the January transfer window is now open, Arsenal they have reportedly joined the race to sign the £8 million star Mikel Arteta with interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Arsenal transfer news

The Gunners began 2024 with high hopes in the race to dethrone Manchester City, but once again ended the calendar year without a trophy to celebrate their progress. To make matters worse, they have now started 2025 without star player Bukaya Saka, something they will have to get used to in the coming weeks as the Englishman recovers from a hamstring injury.

Will Shaka’s injury change the situation? Gunner transfer plan this month remains to be seen. Arteta’s side could certainly use an injection of attacking momentum away from set pieces, given that they are well behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

However, this month they could not only tackle the problem of attacks, with another frustrating problem that could potentially be solved. According to Caught Offside, Arsenal are now racing alongside Manchester United to sign Senne Lammensthe young goalkeeper who is valued by Royal Antwerp at just €10m (£8m) in 2025.

The Gunners are ready to take advantage.

While the shooter would be far from guaranteed regular minutes, he would at least have the opportunity to replace David Raya in the cup competitions instead of Neto, who is tied in the cup with the Carabao Cup.

Much to the Gunners’ frustration, they welcomed a cup keeper in the form of Neto only to soon realize that their cup keeper would not be able to play in the same competition he arrived in. Now that same opportunity could come Lammens’ way.

Lammens can end Arsenal Net’s frustration

With games coming thick and fast and Arsenal already paying the consequences for outplaying Saka, the last thing Arteta needs is another injury to a key player, which would make Lammens’ potential arrival crucial. The 22-year-old impressed at Royal Antwerp and could one day replace Ray permanently, given the Spaniard is already 29.

The numbers paint quite a picture and highlight why Arsenal are reportedly interested in Lammens’ signature ahead of Manchester United. The Royal Antwerp star is a true all-rounder, be it shooting or, just as importantly, with the ball at his feet.

It would be considerable planning if Arsenal could secure a successor to Ray’s number one role at this stage for just £8m. As January begins, it will certainly be interesting to see how much the signing of a goalkeeper becomes a priority at The Emirates with Arteta’s side eyeing a return to the Premier League title.
