Amorim must surely lose Man Utd’s 4/10 miss after Liverpool

Manchester United they put their torrid form of recent weeks behind them and secured a fantastic 2-2 draw away to Liverpool. The Premier League leaders may have been stunned by how well United played, defending well and looking lethal in attack, scoring twice.

Tactical change from the manager Reuben Amorim certainly played a big role in the result. It was something spotted by The Overlap host and football analyst H, who explained it on X that Amroim’s switch from 5-2-3 to 5-4-1 out of possession “congested space in midfield”, making it difficult for Liverpool to pass.

Two fantastic goals from United also helped them win a draw at Anfield. First, Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring with a shot past Alisson. The home side equalized through Cody Gakpo and then took the lead with a Mohamed Salah penalty.

United had a mountain to climb, given the fact they were 2-1 down and only had 20 minutes to go. However, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer famously said“mountains are there to climb”, and it happened to be signed by the Norwegian who brought United a point. Amado Diallo’s goal ensured his side left Anfield with something to show for it.

Indeed, Bjelokovac was one of United’s best players at Anfield.

Amad’s stats against Liverpool

22-year-old Amad is a man with Midi’s touch under Amroim. His hot form under the Portuguese manager continued with another goal at Anfield, taking his tally under the new United manager to three goals and five assists in just 12 games.

His goal was brilliantly taken, following Alejandro Garnach’s cross after he had pulled deep from the Reds defenders. He simply headed the ball into the far corner past Alisson and earned a crucial point for the visitors.

His performance was much more than that goal, and Ivorain worked so hard with the ball. He noticed that Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst. He gave Amado a 7/10 for his effort, explaining that he “ran hard” throughout the game.

Indeed, the 22-year-old’s performance could clearly be seen in his match statistics, courtesy of Sofascore. Amad had 42 touches of the ball and completed 93% of his passes and three out of three dribbles. As Luckhurst mentioned, his work off the ball was neat, winning three of five face-offs on the ground.

No doubt there would have been countless people who would have seen Amad nestle into the Liverpool net in the second half, although perhaps none more than Matthijs de Ligt.

De Ligt’s statistics against Liverpool

It was by no means a terrible game from De Ligt at Anfield. Like his defenders Martinez and Harry Maguire, he defended diligently and was not afraid to get stuck. However, he could have done better for both goals.

For Gakpo’s shot, the defender made a rash slide, completely missing both the Dutch striker and the ball, as his international team-mate made it 1-1. De Ligt was the one who awarded the penalty, and the ball bounced off his outstretched hand.

As the stats from De Ligt’s performance show, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag since United’s fourth. He had 37 touches and completed 83% of his passes, winning four of seven duels. However, the defender won only 33% of his attacks and awarded a penalty.

This was certainly a sentiment he repeated i Richard Martin from GOALwho gave De Ligt 4/10 for his efforts at a snowy Anfield. He explained that while the Dutchman was not “unlucky”, he was “also responsible for both goals conceded” as he was “skinned by Gakpo” for Liverpool’s first goal.

De Ligt may have been relieved to see Amad score to make it 2-2, but now his place in the side could be under threat. Leny Yoro’s contribution from the bench was fantastic, as he denied Darwin Nunez a golden chance with an excellent last-gasp move.

There is no doubting the 19-year-old’s talent, and De Ligt could be in the firing line for United’s next game against Arsenal in the FA Cup. At the very least, it would certainly be hard to argue if Amroim decided to bring Yoro over to the Dutchman’s side.
