All-rounder declared better than Rohit Sharma after Ranji ton

All-rounder Shardul Thakur once again showed his brilliant skills with the bat and got Mumbai out of big trouble during their Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir at BKC. Thakur’s knock came at a time when his side was in deep trouble.

Thakur came into play when Mumbai were in deep trouble at 91-6 after the fall of Ajinkya Rahane’s wicket. With only a five-run lead at that point, he had a big task ahead of him. But he was undeterred despite the heavy pressure and put opposing pitchers under attack.

He was aggressive against both spinners and fast bowlers, which put the Jammu and Kashmir bowlers on the back foot. He completed a whirlwind century off just 105 balls. Social media was abuzz after Thakur’s brilliance with the bat and hailed him as the man for difficult situations.

A knock to remember from Shardul Thakur

It was a knock to remember from the all-rounder who showed his grit to dig Mumbai out of a hole. Shardul Thakur suffered from cramp on several occasions while knocking but continued to fight.

With other Mumbai stars like Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube struggling in this match, Thakur gave a glimpse of his own talent and showed how to play on such a pitch.

He formed a great partnership with offspinner Tanish Kotian, who kept him in good company with a brilliant fifty. The two put on a partnership of more than 150 runs to take Mumbai’s lead towards the 200-run mark.

Shardul Thakur’s last test match

Shardul Thakur last played a Test match during India’s tour of South Africa in November 2023. Since then, he has been out of the squad due to form and fitness issues. The all-rounder did not even find a team in the IPL 2025 auction which was a big shock.

Thakur played no. worth hitting for India lower down the order. He made key contributions with both bat and ball in India’s tours of England, South Africa and Australia. His knock at Gabba 2021 helped India win a memorable Test match in Australia.
