Aussie legend Ricky Ponting mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah’s pace, accuracy and relentless attack made Australia’s top order struggle, making them look out of sorts at times during the five-match Test series. With his exceptional performance, Bumrah once again proved why he is considered one of the most feared bowlers of the modern era.
Ricky Ponting was quoted by the ICC as saying, “Without a doubt, this is probably the best fast bowling series I have ever seen. Yes, they had good conditions, fast bowlers, for most of this series. But when you watched him (Bumrah) bowl compared to anyone else in the series, he made batting look much more difficult. There are a lot of quality batsmen in that Australian top order, but he has made them all look silly at different times.”
After Ricky Ponting, Michael Vaughan he also praised the bowler. The former England captain said India might have had a chance to beat Australia in the fifth Test at the SCG and retain the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy if Jasprit Bumrah had been ready to bowl in the final innings.
It could have been a different story if Bumrah had been fit: Michael Vaughan
Michael Vaughan believes India could have turned the game around had Bumrah been available to bowl in the second innings against Australia, potentially winning the SCG Test and drawing the Test series.
India’s bowling attack was already weakened with Mohammad Shami unavailable for the tour, leaving Bumrah to carry much of the bowling burden. However, Bumrah suffered a back spasm and was unable to bowl the second innings for Australia, resulting in Australia comfortably chasing a target of 162 runs in just 27 overs, securing a six-wicket win.
Michael Vaughan said on Fox Sports: “They really struggled to support that man Bumrah. He obviously misses the second innings here on a pitch that offered a lot to the seamers. It could have been a different story if Bumrah was ready.”
