Team Tszyu Reflects on 2024 Losses, Aims for 2025 Success
Tim Tszyu posted on Instagram today, telling his 283,000 followers that 2025 is the year “We’re all getting great.” Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tszyu (24-2, 17 KOs) admits 2024 hasn’t been great for him, losing his title and winning two in a row.
First, on March 30, he was defeated by Sebastian Fundora by split decision in 12 rounds. He was then knocked out in the third round in an unsuccessful world title challenge against the undefeated IBF 154 lb champion on October 19 in Orlando, Florida. Bakhram Murtazaliev.
Tszyu’s loss to Murtazaliev was brutal and signaled that he must rebuild his career by fighting a home opponent in his native Australia.
Back to basics
It would be crazy bold for Tim to continue fighting the top level five fighters at 154 because a third loss destroys more than a point of return. It would be tough mentally, but the fans would totally give up on Tszyu if he loses the next contest.
In hindsight, Tszyu made the mistake of challenging Murtazaliev (23-0, 17 KOs) in his first fight since his loss to Fundora. He should have taken a softer opponent, not this guy, who is one of the hardest hitters in the division.
Murtazaliev’s power and attacking skills would potentially be too much for Terence Crawford, Fundora and Israil Madrimov. Tszyu should have traded power punches better with this guy.
“In 2024 is a year of adversity. I considered myself a comeback fighter, I didn’t care who was in front of me, I was ready to go up against anyone. Things don’t always go according to script.. but that’s the best thing about boxing. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. I thank everyone for their support. I’m sorry I let a lot down… I like to hit with the best. And that is exactly what I will continue to do. And that’s hitting with whoever. I hope everyone has a happy and prosperous New Year.
2025 is the year we all go BIG. Whatever we do. Chase greatness and never stop believing!! See you very soon,” said Tim Tszyu further Instagram.
