Sports radio legend Mike Francesa takes a close look at Jimmy Carter as he reminisces about the former president

Sports radio legend Mike Francesa delivered a rather direct eulogy for the former president Jimmy Carteras a world leader, he died on Sunday at the age of 100.

Francesa briefly described a day in the NFL “Mike Francesa’s Podcast” and ended the show talking about Carter. He did not remember Carter’s presidency fondly and ended up calling him a good man but a bad president.

“I just saw the breaking news that former President Jimmy Carter passed away at the age of, amazingly, 100. I don’t know if he’s the first president to ever live to be 100. I think he probably is, but I don’t know I don’t know that,” he said . “Don’t swear at me because I don’t know if it’s true, but I think it is.

“History has not been kind to Jimmy Carter. He he was not a great president. I’m not trying to disparage him in any way. Remember, you came from Watergate. The United States, the country felt that Washington was dirty and corrupt. They had had enough of career politicians, and (Richard Nixon) was the ultimate career politician. I mean, he was in Congress, he was vice president twice, he ran for president in ’60, he ran for governor in ’62, he lost in ’60, he lost in ’62. He came back and won the presidency; he returned and conquered it again; and then came Watergate. He resigned from office and (Gerald Ford) pardoned him. That finished Ford.

“So you got a guy who was an outsider, a mild-mannered, bright man. A peanut farmer from Georgia who had no ties to Washington, who was honest as can be seen and clean as a whistle. He won the presidency. He came, He was an honest man, he did a lot of good things after he finished his political career, he was a good man and a very smart man, but he was not an effective leader and he was not a good president just as he is, some were not.”

Fans of Francesa seem to be used to his eulogies.

Funhouse posted a clip of Frances’ eulogy to Carter on top of his eulogy to Marvel comics creator Stan Lee while he was still working at WFAN in New York.

Carter was remembered in the sports world. The Atlanta Braves published a statement about his death.

“The Atlanta Braves are deeply saddened by the passing of President Jimmy Carter,” the Braves said. “President Carter was a testament to the best that America and Georgia can produce.

“He served both his country and his homeland honorably his entire life. While the world knew him as an extraordinary humanitarian and peacemaker, we knew him as a devoted Braves fan and we will miss him in the stands cheering on his Braves.
