Trudeau says there is ‘no chance of a snowball’ that Canada will become part of the US
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that there is not a ‘snowball’s chance’ of his country becoming part of the US, as President-elect Trump continues to push for the neighbor to the north to become the 51st state of the United States.
“There is no way in hell that Canada will become part of the United States,” Trudeau wrote on X. “Workers and communities in both of our countries benefit from being each other’s largest trade and security partners.”
Trudeau’s response came after Trump said Canada should be a country while speaking at a press conference Tuesday at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump also noted that if Canada were to join the US, it would not be through the use of military force, but through “economic force.”
On Monday, the president-elect said in a social media post that “many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st country.”
But he also stressed that if Canada and the US merge, there will be no tariffs, taxes will go down and Canada will be “completely safe” from the threats of Russian and Chinese ships that “constantly surround” them.
TRUMP TROLLS CANADA SO 51ST STATE COULD BOOST DEMOCRATS WITH ‘BLUE-STATE BEHEMOTH’
“Together, what a great nation that would be!!!” Trump exclaimed in his post on social networks.
Over the past few weeks, Trump has trolled Canada for considering it becoming the 51st state, while also posting a fictional photo of the president-elect standing on top of a mountain next to a Canadian flag.
Trump also mocked Trudeau, repeatedly calling him “the governor” and threatening to impose heavy tariffs on Canada, likely influencing Trudeau announces his resignation from Monday’s post.
WHAT TRUMP IS SAYING ABOUT CANADA BECOMING THE 51ST STATE
Trudeau announced his intention to resign as party leader and prime minister as pressure from his own Liberal Party mounted amid heightened criticism of his handling of the economy and threats from Trump. He said he would resign when the party elects a new leader.
Trudeau, who has led the nation for almost a decade, has been struggling for months with a significant drop in his approval ratings over growing frustration over issues such as the rising cost of living and rising inflation.

Trudeau’s resignation means the Liberal Party can name an interim prime minister to lead the country until next fall’s election, potentially giving them a fighting chance to rebuild support for the Liberal Party.
Along with his fixation on Canada, Trump also called on Denmark to sell Greenland to the US
