The main coach of Punjab Kings (PBKS) Ricky Ponting claimed that he was exceptionally wanted to work with the franchise skipper Shreyas Iyer for Iyer for the IPL 2025. Describing the Indian dough as a great human being, the Australian legend added that Shreyas had already made an influence as a leader back.
Shreyas Ponting has previously worked together as a coach and captain, that is, during his stay with Delhi Capitals (DC). The former Kolkat Knight Riders (KKR) to win the IPL 2024, PBKS bought the auction of Mega for a whopping 26.75 crowns, making it the second most expensive player in IPL history.
In media interaction, Ponting expressed excitement for reuniting with Shreyas in Punjab Kings. Praising the Indian star, he said (as quoted by PTI):
“I desperately desperately collaborated with Shreyas. We had a great employment in Delhi over a long period of time. He is one of the best players I worked with.
“He is a great human being. He is a captain who won IPL. You couldn’t look for much more. He joined the camp only a few days ago. So he started giving his mark on the team as a captain and as a leader. We gathered a great team. As you know, the captain’s relationship in any team is here.
PBKS He only kept two players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction – Shashank Singh for ₹ 5.50 Crowns and Prabhsimran Singh for ₹ 4 crore. At the mega auction, besides Shreyas, they bought Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal for each of the 18 crowns, and Marcus Stoinis for ₹ 11 crore.

During the media interaction, Shreyas also welcomed Sprinkled and described the former Australian captain as a coach who supports everything and does not believe in the culture of the senior junior. 30-year-old worked out:
“I worked with him for almost three years in the franchise. And I know how he thinks of every individual on the field and in the field. He supports everything. You see in some places a culture of senior and junior. But when I first worked with him, I felt like I was a great player. And I can easily be executed in this format.
Punjab Kings will open the IPL 2025 campaign with a match against Gujarata Titan (GT) at Narendra Moda Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 25.
