Barcelona may have found a temporary solution to their vexing Dani Olmo registration issue, with AC Milan reportedly willing to sign the striker loan.
Barcelona have so far failed in their attempts to register Olmoand the less talked about Pau Victor, with La Liga in the second half of the season. The Catalans did not have the financial means to include the players in their tight wage budget at the start of the season, instead using the temporary hole resulting from Andreas Christensen’s injury absence to register the pair until December 31, 2024.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) does not allow a player to re-register for the same club in a single campaign, which is what Barcelona need to do with Olma after his registration expires. The club has already been to the local court to try to force an exception and now faces an appeal to Spain’s Higher Sports Councilat least seeking provisional admission before a final decision.
As it stands, neither Olmo nor Victor can play for Barcelona this season.
The problem with trying to force registration through the courts is that the outcome may take longer than just the next few weeks. So if Barcelona ultimately unsuccessful in their latest legal challenge, it would put both players on rest for the rest of the season.
While the January transfer window is open, there would be an option for them to finish the season elsewhere. When it comes to Olmo in particular, it is widely reported that he has the right to terminate his contract – with his full salary paid – and look for another club as a free agent.
But it seems that La Masia’s childhood player has made it clear that he had no intention of taking that step. This means that the risk of losing it permanently is minimal. Yet not playing, through no fault of his own, would still be a frustrating consequence of such devotion.
Corriere della Sera reported interest from AC Milan, who would apparently be happy to take Olmo on a short-term loan until the summer, by which time Barcelona should be able to register the midfielder for the entire 2025/26 season after returning to La Liga’s 1-1 Spending Rules last week. It seems to be a win-win situation as it might be in otherwise really difficult circumstances.
Milan they have struggled so far in the 2024/25 season. to keep pace with Serie A’s top six and are facing an absence from European football for the first time since 2019/20. unless they can bolster an attack that has averaged just 1.5 goals per game in the league, finding the net 19 times less than rivals Inter.
MARCH reports that no official offer has reached Olmo, who is said to reject any because he still has faith in president Joan Laporta and the hierarchy to figure things out.
