Ruben Amorim explains how Marcus Rashford can return to the Man Utd team

Ruben Amorim has challenged Marcus Rashford to step up and lead by example if he wants to return to the Manchester United squad.

Rashford was left out of Amorim’s last three matchday squads, after publicly admitting that desire for a new challenge after being left out of the Manchester derby.

He wondered about Rashford failing to show him that other players in the United team, Amorim insisted the 27-year-old has a unique set of responsibilities that he has yet to fulfill.

“Like any other player, the best I can be,” he said. “If you have great talents, [I expect] high impact, high responsibility, high engagement, push everything forward in this moment. Some guys here have a lot of responsibility because they’ve been here for a long time.

“This is perhaps one of the lowest moments in our club, so we have to face it and be strong in this moment. That’s what I want from every player in the team.”

Amorim confirmed the reports Sir Jim Ratcliffe and those responsible at United were not involved in his decision to drop Rashford.

“He wants to play,” Amorim said of Rashford. “He is trying, it is my decision and only my decision.

“I talked to a lot of players individually during training. I do things my way. It’s the only way I know. If I don’t, I’d lose myself, and I won’t. I know what I’m doing.”
