Inflation increased more than foreseen in January, providing further impetus to the federal reserves to hold the line of interest rates.

Consumer prices index, a wide measure of the cost of goods and services in the US economy, accelerated the seasonally adapted 0.5% for the month, which she puts an annual inflation rate at 3%, Biro reported on Wednesday for work statistics. They were higher than the corresponding assessment of Dow Jones by 0.3% and 2.9%. The annual rate was a 0.1 percentage point higher than December.

With the exception of unstable food and energy prices, the CPI increased by 0.4%in the month, which was at 3.3%of the 12-month inflation rate. This is compared to appropriate estimates by 0.3% and 3.1%. The annual basic rate has also grown by 0.1 percentage from December.

The shelter costs were still a problem for inflation, increased by 0.4% of the month and made up about 30% of the entire increase, BLS said.

Food prices jumped 0.4%, pushed 15.2% of the increase in egg prices associated with liquid bird problems forced by farmers forced to destroy millions of chickens. The bureau said that this is the biggest increase in the price of eggs since June 2015. And that it is responsible for about two -thirds of the food increase at home prices. Egg prices have increased 53% in the last year.

The markets have fallen after the news, with the future related to the industrial average of Dow Jones, sliding more than 400 points, while the bond yields have increased sharply.

The report comes the day after Fed Jerome Powell’s President indicated that the central bank could be waiting for a while when it comes to interest rates.
