US strikes Houthi targets in Yemen after US warships attack, CENTCOM says
The United States military said Tuesday that its forces “conducted multiple precision strikes” that hit Houthi target in the capital of Yemen.
The targets were used by Iran-backed rebels for attacks American warships and Commercial Ships, US Central Command he said in a press release. The attacks began on Monday and continued on Tuesday. The video shared by the command is displayed plane take off and rockets fired from the ship.
Targets included a Hutu command and control facility and advanced conventional weapons production and storage facilities. The facilities held missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles used in Houthi operations, CENTCOM said. US Navy and US Air Force aircraft also destroyed a Houthi coastal radar site and seven cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehiclesthey said from CENTCOM.
One witness in the Houthi-controlled Yemeni capital Sana’a reported several attacks in different locations. Another reported attacks in Sanaa on the Ministry of Defense and heard a loud explosion.
The command said there were no injuries or damage to US personnel or equipment.
The strikes are part of CENTCOM’s effort to degrade Iranian-backed Houthi efforts to threaten regional partners and military and merchant shipping in the region.
Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam called the attacks “American aggression” and “a clear violation of the sovereignty of an independent state and clear support for Israel.”
Rebels earlier on Tuesday said they had fired two missiles at Israel, hours after Israel’s military said it had intercepted a missile fired from the country. Earlier in December, a rocket fired from Yemen hit the Tel Aviv arealeaving more than a dozen people injured by broken glass, according to the Israeli military. This happened after several days of Israeli airstrikes against the Houthi rebels.
The Houthis control much of it war-torn Yemen and they fired missiles and drones at Israel and at ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Adenin, as they say, solidarity with the Palestinians during Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip.
