Nigerian children die in Kauran Namoda

At least 17 children were killed in a fire at the Islamic School in North Nigeria.

Several other students were injured and rushed to health centers in the town of Kauran Namoda, the State of Zamfara, for treatment.

The fire is believed to have erupted at a nearby house on Tuesday night and spread to school while the children slept.

Local authorities and ambulances have been sent to the scene, but the fire has already resulted in significant victims.

An eyewitness to Yahaya Mahi told the BBC Haus that the place of the school made it difficult for those trying to stop the fire.

“Even if the firefighters came on time, it would be difficult to get home because of a tight road leading to the house,” he said.

Local official Mannir Haidara said that other Islamic schools would be examined to make sure they were not a risk of fire.

“We will take measures to prevent the second appearance of this nature,” he said.

The father of one of the victims told BBC Haus that he was devastated, but his faith in God was comforted at the time.
