Biden expected to abandon Trump’s letter, continuing a tradition from Reagan
President Biden plans to leave a letter President-elect Trump before leaving the White House, according to the report, continuing a modern presidential tradition that began with President Ronald Reagan.
Biden is expected to leave a message to his successor on the Resolute desk in the Oval Office, CNN first reported.
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for confirmation, but did not immediately respond.
Four years after succeeding Trump, Biden finds himself in a unique position, both in history and in politics, to write a letter to his successor who left him a message four years ago.

Despite a history of opposing traditions during his first term as president, such as attending Biden’s inauguration, Trump curiously continued this presidential rite of passage by writing a letter to Biden.
Biden said it was a “very generous letter” but has so far refused to share the content of what Trump wrote, considering it private and saying he would not discuss it until he had a chance to speak with Trump.
Trump also declined to share details, saying he thought it was up to Biden to share the letter.

“It was a nice message,” Trump said during a September 2023 interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” adding, “I took a lot of time thinking about it.”
Trump got what he got described as “a beautiful letter” from his predecessor, President Barack Obama.
Obama told Trump both were blessed with good fortune, that American leadership was “truly necessary” in the world, that they were “guardians” of democratic institutions and traditions, and that family and friends would see him through “inevitable hardships.”

When Trump takes office on Monday, he will be the first president to serve non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland in the late 19th century, when the tradition of letter writing did not exist.
