Donald Trump says he believes that now ‘get Grenland’
President Donald Trump said he believes he will now take control of Greenland, after showing a renewed interest in gaining autonomous Danish territory in recent weeks.
“I think we will have it,” he told reporters to Air Force One on Saturday, adding that the 56,000 population of the island “wants to be with us.”
His comments come after a report that Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederixen insisted that Grenland was not for sale in a fiery telephone interview with the President last week.
Trump first presented the possibility of buying territories during his first term in 2019 and said that US control over Greenland was “an absolute need” for international security.
“I think people want to be with us,” Trump said in a press room on the presidential aircraft.
“I don’t really know what Denmark is on it, but it would be a very hostile act not to let it happen because it is to protect the free world,” he added.
“I think we will get Greenland because it has to do with the freedom of the world,” Trump continued.
“It has nothing to do with the United States except that we are the ones who can provide freedom. They cannot.”
