An agreement has been reached and a medical scheduled as Newcastle close in on a £9m+ sale

“unique” Newcastle United the player is now close to leaving the club in the January transfer window, and an agreement has been reached regarding his departure.

Newcastle transfer news

Magpies transfer rumors refuse to die down as the current window draws to a close next Monday, s Semih Kilicosoj linked with a move to St James’ Park at the weekend. The 19-year-old Besiktas winger is a target this month, but that could depend on whether or not Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to keep him.

While Sporting CP centre-back Ousmane Diomande has been mentioned as an option to come in and strengthen Eddie Howedefensive options, Barcelona’s ace Eric Garcia he is seen as an alternative, while Newcastle look for a long-term partner for Sven Botman.

When it comes to January outings in St James, Miguel Almiron has been consistently linked with a move away, with an agreement reportedly in place with MLS side Atlanta United.

However, personal terms had yet to be agreed, which acted as a potential stumbling block, but now there has been a new development in the story.

The Newcastle ace has agreed to leave in January with a medical

According to Monumental AM 1080 [via Sport Witness], an agreement was reached to end Almiron’s career at Newcastle. The 30-year-old will sign a four-year deal with Atalanta, with the transfer fee expected to be £9.6m. He will travel there at the end of the week to complete the transfer and undergo a medical examination.

Journalist Cesar Luis Merlot has also backed this up, saying the deal is “done”, with only a medical and official announcement.

Still, this ultimately feels like the right decision for all concerned Howe has shown his love for Almiron in the past, saying:

“He (Almiron) is a unique footballer. I don’t think there’s anyone better at what he does – all the energy, all the action. I’d like to see his physicals today because I’m sure they’d go through the roof. The quality he’s shown with his finishing is huge reminded me of some of the goals he scored last year – he is such an important player for us.”

Almiron has struggled to get playing time with Newcastle this season, with Jacob Murphy often preferred on the right flank, and at 30 he’s not getting any younger. He did not record a single goal contribution at nine Premier League performed in 2024/25, highlighting his lack of influence and action.

The Paraguayan’s commitment and team ethic have always been impressive, but a lack of end product has too often been a problem, with the Magpies ace lacking the elite quality in that area that Howe now needs to thrive.
