Hansi Flick condemns the racist chant directed at the Barcelona star

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has slammed Getafe fans’ racist chanting of Alejandro Balde as “unbelievable” and “totally wrong”.

The young left-back was subjected to abuse during the first half of the clash in the Spanish capital, prompting him to approach the referee to inform him of what was said.

Balde told reporters after the match ended 1-1: “I received racist abuse today, I don’t think it will continue to happen.

“It was in the first half, I warned the referee about racist insults and he activated the protocol and in the second half there was no more of that.

We asked Flick about his reaction to the situation when he addressed the media, and the ex Bayern Munich and the coach of Germany understandably stood side by side with his player and called for measures to be taken against the individuals responsible.

“There is no place for this in football or in life. It’s unbelievable,” said Flick. “In the time we live in now, that is completely wrong. Those who do that should stay at home, I think they should be fought against, that’s the best way.

“But the people around them can also do something because it’s unfair. It’s not the respect we want to live with, I think everyone can do something.”

BarcelonaThe club’s manager also touched on another disappointing run of results in La Liga, failing to capitalize on Atletico Madrid’s surprise defeat to Leganes on Friday night. There was more bad news on Sunday as Clasico rivals Real Madrid defeated Las Palmas 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu to return first place to Atleti, seven points ahead of third-placed Barca.

“I’m not worried. I’m aware of the situation, I know we dropped a lot of points in the last games, that’s not what we want, and we can do much better,” said Flick. “But in the end, you can see that we started the season very well, in this new year, and I’m happy about that.

“But now we have to show it. We have to show it in Lisbon because it’s a very important game. To get three points there means we go to the next round. That’s what we want, but we have to play much better. That’s what we want, but that is very important.” “
