“Rohit Sharma is done and wiped” – Twitter reacts to Indian captain’s Ranji Trophy failure on comeback
Indian national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma’s stars seem to be in turmoil at the moment, which is not at all a good sign for the team ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Despite continuing to train in Mumbai after returning from the disastrous tour of Australia, his poor form continued even and in domestic cricket.
Rohit returned to his Ranji Trophy after 10 years, but only to make it a memorable one for Jammu and Kashmir skipper Umar Nazir Mir. The Indian captain is currently playing for Mumbai in their ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash at the MCA Cricket Ground.
Rohit Sharma failed in Ranji comeback after 10 years
After Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane was awarded the toss and opted to bat first, high hopes were pinned on India’s regular openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit, but both disappointed the team and the fans by losing their wickets cheaply to Jammu and Kashmir.
The hitman faced just 3 runs off 19 balls before being caught by Paras Dogra at the MCA Cricket Ground to extend his miserable run with the bat. After yet another failure by the Indian captain, fans are mocking Rohit for not being able to stand up to the home bowlers.
Calls for his retirement have intensified after his fan-favored Ranji player criticized Rohit for not being able to survive in domestic cricket. Rohit had a tough 2024 with the bat, but his 31 runs in five innings in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. they were just alarming for his career.
He had hoped to find some rhythm in the Ranji game, but failed again, which only increased calls for his retirement from all formats of the game.
Here’s how fans reacted to Rohit Sharma’s Ranji comeback failure:

In 2024, Rohit Sharma could only score 1154 runs in 28 matches at an average of 31.18 and a strike rate of 86.83 across all formats. The seasoned opener ended 2024 with more than 600 runs. Additionally, Rohit scored 157 runs in 3 ODIs and 378 runs in 11 T20Is before retiring from the format last year.
Rohit Sharma is unlikely to feature in Mumbai’s final 2024-25 Ranji Trophy match as he is expected to join the Indian national cricket team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, scheduled to begin on February 6 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
The story of the match between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir so far
Talking about the Ranji clash, the Mumbai cricket team got off to a really bad start as Umar Nazir Mir wreaked havoc on the top order by removing wicket keeper Hardik Tamore (7) and captain Ajinkya Rahane (12) cheaply after getting the big wicket of Rohit on the opening day matches.
Umar Nazir Mir has been deadly with the ball so far, as the Jammu and Kashmir pacer went on to dismiss Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube for a three-ball duck. On the other hand, Yudhvir Singh struck twice, getting rid of Shreyas Iyer for 11 runs off 7 balls and Shams Mulani for a duck.
At this juncture, Jammu and Kashmir have thrown Mumbai out of whack, as the hosts lost seven wickets for just 47 runs in the ongoing Ranji match.
