The Gers enjoyed a routine 5-0 win at home to Fraserburgh in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Sunday, but there is also plenty of focus on potential January transfers over the next few weeks.
Allan Campbell has been mentioned as an option for Rangers in the current window, with the Scot currently on loan at Charlton Athletic from Luton Town. The Hatters will not stand in his way if the right offer comes, and Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibernian are also mentioned as options for him.
Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron has also been linked with a move to the Gers in January, with the 22-year-old seen as an exciting long-term option for Scottish Premiership giants. In fact, they are even said to be in advanced talks to complete that signing, suggesting the move could happen sooner rather than later.
There have also been rumors linking Rangers players leaving the club this month with Vaclav Cerny it was thought that he could be of interest to Premier League side West Ham. The 27-year-old would be a huge loss for him Philippe Clementhaving scored nine goals in the league this season, although the Hammers may wait until at least the summer due to the complications of canceling his current loan deal.
Rangers’ “top” player is ready to leave
According to Football Insider, Alex Lowry is set to leave Rangers in the January windowwith League One side Wycombe Wanderers “closer to a deal” to snap up the 21-year-old. Mladic is out of contract at Ibrox at the end of this season, meaning this month is the last chance for the Gers to receive a fee for him, rather than losing him on a free transfer in the summer.
Selling Lowry this month seems like the most logical decision for all concerned, even though he described him as “top class.” Rory Wilson in the past, with Michael Stewart also wax lyrical about him, saying: “You only have to watch the kid for a few minutes to understand that he is a real football player.
“Really intelligent, two good feet, good balance, and he’s always looking to get things going. His work rate, his closing. He’s constantly putting himself in position to receive the ball as well.”
Lowry did not play at all for the Rangers this season, and only 14 performances worked his way up the club’s overall ladder, having worked his way up after years in the club’s youth system.
At 21, the midfielder is at a point in his career where he needs to play regularly in order to continue to develop as a footballer, and it doesn’t appear that Clement and the higher-ups at Gers consider him part of their future plans.
