After four years of inflation, chaos at our borders and weakness on the world stage, the United States is turning the page. Inauguration of President Trump it will usher in a new era focused on American strength—including a strong economy, a strong border, and a strong military.
I expect we will see the president take immediate action secure the border and reverse the policies of the Biden administration that threaten America’s energy security. And Republicans in Congress will work tirelessly to bolster his efforts.
We are already working hard on legislation to meet two of our highest priorities – securing the resources needed to secure the border and extending the tax cuts that Republicans passed during the first Trump administration.
The Senate last week took an initial step toward border security by considering the Laken Riley Act, which would ensure that illegal aliens who steal, assault a law enforcement officer, or kill or seriously injure another person are instead detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement if they are allowed go out into the street.
MEET LEADER JOHN THUNE’S ALL-STAR CABINET AS REPUBLICANS TAKE SENATE MAJORITY
We want to pass the bill in the Senate on Monday and send it to the President’s desk soon after. Republicans in Congress will also implement the Congressional Review Act to reverse the grievances Biden’s administrative regulations.
Voters gave President Trump a decisive victory in November. And now the real work begins: fulfilling the mandate they gave us.
The Senate is also working hard to ensure President Trump has the team he needs. Senate committees have held hearings on 12 of President Trump’s nominees so far, with more to come.
Last Wednesday, our committees held six Cabinet confirmation hearings in one day, the most Cabinet confirmation hearings in one day since 2001. Once the nominees are out of committee, we will work to quickly schedule a confirmation vote in the Senate, with the goal of establish the president’s full cabinet.

It will be a new day in the executive branch in Washington. President Trump’s nominees will be focused on business, not vigilance. Days of executive branch agencies targeting conservative Americans, pushing extreme social policies and promoting social and environmental fantasies the far left are done.
How refreshing it will be to have an administration focused on reducing regulatory burdens, promoting a strong economy and building our military. The Trump administration – and Republicans in Congress – will also be focused on making government more efficient. When we see a way to eliminate waste or save taxpayer money, we’ll take it.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that since November there is a new optimism in the air. President Trump’s faith in our country and our citizens is contagious. It reminds us that anything is possible in America and that while we may have had a rough four years under the Biden administration, we have what it takes to come back stronger.
