The Australian National Cricket Team has received a major boost ahead of the two-match Test series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. Opening batsman Steve Smith has been given the green signal by experts to take part in the series against the island nation.

The series between the teams will begin on January 29, followed by the second game of the series to be played from February 6. Both matches will be played at the Galle International Stadium in Galle.

Many reports even suggested that Steve Smith would miss the series due to injury. But a few days ago, Cricket Australia issued a statement on the batsman, saying they would consult an expert before the board took any call on his availability.

Smith also did not travel with the Australian cricket team training camp in Dubai ahead of the two-match series against the Sri Lankan cricket team. It was learned that he will first see a doctor before boarding the flight to Australia.

The batsman, however, has now visited a doctor, who cleared him of the injury. He will soon travel to Dubai for a training camp ahead of the series. However, he won’t bat right away and will do so later in the week.

Cricket Australia released an official statement on the batsman and said: “Steve Smith today underwent a specialist medical examination following a right elbow injury sustained during the Big Bash League.

“He has been cleared to rejoin the Test squad and travel to Dubai. Smith is expected to return to batting later in the week to begin preparations for the first Test against Sri Lanka.”

Steve Smith has been named captain of the Australian national cricket team for the Test series against the Sri Lankan national cricket team. The reason for this is that Pat Cummins will be absent from the series due to injury and the birth of his second child.

The Australian cricket team has already qualified for the finals of the ICC Test World Cup and will be looking to prepare well before heading to the UK.
