Leeds are looking for an “exciting” EFL gem who could be Farke’s new Buendia

Leeds United fans have already found themselves in this irritating position in terms of their promotion-chasing side, as the January transfer window was too relaxed.

Indeed, this time last year the Whites had completed just one window-shop deal in the form of Burnley loanee Conor Roberts, and their lack of work has likely hurt their promotion aspirations Daniel Farkethe team became stretched.

With no new faces at the door yet, the crowds at Elland Road will be fearing a similar burnout, but there is still time before the window closes for Leeds to rewrite this story.

The promotion chasers could finally spend this money this January on an up-and-coming EFL gem who would further bolster Leeds’ attack if they snap him up ahead of some key games coming up in Priority.

Leeds are in a rush to sign the EFL striker

According to the report of Football Insider, Leeds are now deep in the race to land Oxford United star Tyler Goodrham this month, with a whole host of other second-tier sides wanting the 21-year-old’s services.

Football Insider further elaborate that Coventry City, Sunderland and Swansea City are all keeping an eye on the U’s youngster alongside the Whites, with Gary Rowett’s side possibly helpless to lose their young attacking midfielder in the very near future.

While this wouldn’t necessarily be the best buy from Farke and Co, Goodrham could come in and offer an adaptable presence in the forward positions, similar to another Leeds target in Emiliano Buendia.

He would also be a more realistic target for promotion hopefuls to win a continued pursuit of the Aston Villa man as the clock ticks closer to deadline day.

What Goodrham could offer Leeds

While the German would love for a spectacular reunion with Buendia to take place, having previously managed him at Norwich City, it may not all fall into place by the early February deadline.

While a player like Goodrham would no doubt welcome the chance to sign for Farke’s side, his performances for the relegation-threatened Oxford side this season stand out as a huge positive at the Kassam Stadium.

The 21-year-old tallied three goals and three assists for his boyhood club in 25 league appearances, with his last Championship goal coming against Millwall to help his lowly side salvage a 1-1 draw.

However, away from what is currently going on in the second division, Goodrham has also been a pleasure to watch in League One wearing his side’s famous yellow strip during the 2023/24 season, with eight goals – which included a goal against Charlton Athletic – ran in a goal, along with four more assists to help his side win promotion.

Buendia was similarly influential under Farke during the 2020/21 season. at Carrow Road when he made a ridiculous tally 15 goals and 16 assists overall in League Two, and Goodrham hopes he can reach similar dizzying heights in time if he is surrounded by top players at Elland Road.

The similarities of this couple do not end there, with the fact that the South American is capable of humiliation both wings if necessary along with lining up as a number ten, where Goodrham also excels with Oxford’s number 19 being able to play in a wide range of positions.

While it is an “exciting” 21-year-old – as ex-U’s boss Des Buckingham once called him – may not immediately make waves in the starting 11 Farke could be a useful buy given his versatility as Leeds try to win promotion between now and May.
