Texas woman asks others to play ‘Dry January’ with her and fails miserably
Like many Americans, Harley Hurosky from Texas decided to participate in the “Dry January” movement and give up alcohol a month after overindulging during the holidays.
“Due to eating and drinking a lot during the holiday season, I wasn’t feeling great at all,” Harley told Fox News Digital. “So I figured starting the year with the goal of feeling better physically would be a smart move.”
Hurosky, who lives in Houston, hoped to build a circle of supporters who would not only encourage her, but join her on a booze-free break. That didn’t really happen.

“Of course, I assumed that my friends and family would rally around me and join me in moral support,” Hurosky said. “It turns out the only thing they’re committed to is staying comfortably on the sidelines with cocktails in hand.”
Hurosky decided to record the reactions of those she asked and post their answers on social media. (Watch the video at the top of this article.)
“My parents made the list because, well, they’re reliable when it comes to answering the phone and I thought their reactions would be fun, which they absolutely were,” she said.
“I fully expected it most of my loved ones to answer with a nonchalant ‘no,’ especially since they were asked to abstain from alcohol for an entire month, seemed like a bold move,” Hurosky said. “But their reactions—both the refusals and the laughter—were exactly what made the video so fun.”
The viral video it garnered more than 743,000 views on TikTok earlier this weekend.

Hurosky is a marketing manager and said she enjoys posting on social media.
“Honestly, I just love the process. It’s a lot of fun to create and share moments that make people smile or laugh,” she said. “My content tends to focus on relatable, funny situations because that’s how I connect with people.”
Hurosky said most of those she asked were “pretty social and travel a lot,” so she expected some funny reactions.
“That’s why I recorded all the FaceTimes,” she continued. “What I didn’t expect was that the funniest answers would come from my parents. My dad, who is as stupid as I am, absolutely stole everything. Sorry for doubting you, Dad. You really delivered.”

Hurosky is convinced she can make it through January without him any drink.
“This is not my first time going to Dry January. My boyfriend and I successfully completed it last year,” she told Fox News Digital.
“The goal was to lose a few pounds and get moving a healthier lifestyle.“
Although they were able to cut liquid calories last year, Hurosky said the couple “may have overcompensated on takeout and restaurant meals … Let’s just say the calories we saved by skipping the cocktails probably came back through our delivery orders.”

But she noticed some other benefits of skipping alcohol.
“We definitely felt less groggy and enjoyed life without the horrible hangover,” Hurosky said.
– Dry January didn’t quite match their vibe.
“Plus, we proved to ourselves that we can stick to the challenge and go a whole month without alcohol, so I’d call that an overall win.”
