Andy Bara, the agent of Barcelona star Dani Olmo, has dealt a major blow to Arsenal’s hopes of signing the midfielder during the January transfer window.
Arsenal have been linked with Olmo in recent weeks as the Gunners look to tackle his unusual situation at Barcelona – Man United have also shown interest in the player.
The Spanish star arrived at the Catalan club in the summer as part of a A contract of 60 million euros with RB Leipzig after impressing the world en route to winning Euro 2024 with Spain in the summer, however, Barca needed creative ways to register the player in La Liga.
In January, Olmo will not be able to play for Barcelona during the second part of the campaign because they do not have the funds to register the midfielder.
The La Liga giants have rejected two appeals Juzgado de Primera Instancia (misdemeanor court) over the past few weeks. This means that Olmo can now leave Barca in January, although the Catalan side may have found a way to register the 26-year-old.
Arsenal appear to have a genuine interest in a Premier League star
According to The GuardianBarcelona closed a last-minute deal worth 100 million euros to sell VIP boxes at the newly renovated Camp Nou to investors from the Middle East.
In addition, Olmo’s agent stated that the player hopes to stay at Barcelona, despite his connections outside the Spanish club.
Dani Olmo’s agent downplays links with Arsenal
Speaking with Fabrizio RomanoOlmo’s agent Andy Bara said about the midfielder’s future: “The decision that Dani made is to stay in Barcelona because he wants to play for Barca.”
“We are not considering any other options,” the agent said. “Dani wants to play for Barcelona.”
The chances of Arsenal signing the Euro 2024 winner were slim, but if they did land the Spanish star, it would be a huge coup for Mikel Arteta heading into the second half of the 2024/25 season.
