All players out for semi-final clash with Liverpool
Tottenham Hotspur will continue to be without a host of first-team players this Wednesday when they host Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
Consistent and devastating injuries have been the theme of Tottenham’s grueling campaign so far, and Ange Postecoglou’s options remain very limited ahead of Liverpool’s visit. The defense has been decimated the most by fitness issues in recent months, but there are absentees throughout the squad.
Spurs are desperate to end their 17-year trophy drought this term and Wednesday serves as an excellent opportunity to get one foot into the Carabao Cup final. However, they will have to deal with injuries and an excellent Liverpool squad to make the ultimate event.
They are here Tottenham players who are missing in the duel with Liverpool.
Tottenham will boast just one member of their starting five on Wednesday night, with Pedro Porro the last man at right-back. Elsewhere, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies all are absent at central defender, doc The fate of Udogia is sidelined for a long time due to a recent hamstring injury.
To make matters worse, Spurs are currently without their leading goalkeeper. Guglielmo Vicario has been missing since the end of November and his replacement Fraser Forster is also fighting the disease. Third choice Brandon Austin made his debut in the 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United this weekend.
However, Spurs signed a new goalkeeper during the first week of the January transfer window, signing Slavia Prague youngster Antonin Kinsky. He is available and eligible to play against Liverpool.
Fortunately for Postecoglou, Tottenham have no injury problems in midfield, but they will be without them James Maddison and Pope Matar Sarr on Wednesday evening. Both are serving one-match bans after picking up two yellow cards in previous rounds of the Carabao Cup.
In even better news, Rodrigo Bentancur is back from a Premier League suspension which saw him miss Saturday’s clash with the Magpies. He is likely to partner Yves Bissouma in the center of the park, while teenager Lucas Bergvall could earn more minutes after the start of the weekend.
Tottenham may be looking to introduce more attacking depth during January, but they have seen previous absences Richarlison recently returned to training. The Brazilian is yet to start in the Premier League this season due to ongoing fitness issues and will be out on Wednesday as he is yet to fully recover from a hamstring problem.
The same injury prevented a summer signing Wilson Odobert from October and the former Burnley striker will not be present at Liverpool’s visit. However, the young Mikey Moore could play in the team because he has been absent since the beginning of November due to illness.
