President Biden’s climate standards for walk-in freezers could face scrutiny under a new GOP resolution
EXCLUSIVE: Republicans in Congress are fighting back President Biden appliance regulations with a resolution that seeks to circumvent new green energy standards for freezers.
In December 2024, Biden’s Department of Energy (DOE) published a final rule setting stricter climate standards for walk-in refrigerators and freezers. The new regulation is currently scheduled to go into effect in February, but could soon be disabled Republican representatives seeking to overturn the rule.
Rep. Stephanie Bice, R-Oka., introduced a joint resolution of disapproval under the DOE refrigerator and freezer standards Thursday, shared exclusively with Fox News Digital. Lawmakers are using joint resolutions of disapproval to overturn the final rule passed by the federal agency, meaning that if passed, the Republican-led Congress can overturn Biden’s new green energy standard for appliances.
“The Biden administration has done everything they can to regulate every aspect of our homes and businesses. Walk-in refrigerators and freezers are used everywhere; from pharmacies, grocery stores, food processing plants, food banks, restaurants and more,” said Bice Fox News Digital.
ECONOMICS PARLIAMENT’S RESOLUTION WOULD CANCEL BIDEN’S BAN ON GAS WATER HEATER
According to the DOE’s final rule, the revised freezer standards would “result in significant energy savings and are technologically feasible and economically justifiable,” but Bice suggests such regulations are an excessive intrusion by the federal government into consumers’ lives.
“These rules continue to add unnecessary burdens to everyday Americans and ultimately stifle consumer choice,” Bice said. “This is a direct overreach of authority that my colleagues and I are fighting against.” The joint resolution is sponsored by GOP Rep. Gary Palmer of Alabama.
The bill comes as Republicans, who hold the leadership trifecta in Washington, prepare bills and resolutions to reject Biden’s green energy regulations several household appliances.
The Department of Energy recently announced a new rule banning non-condensing natural gas water heaters until 2029. However, on Wednesday Palmer introduced a resolution block ban on water heaters, which was first announced by Fox News Digital.
