Locals are pitching in to support the front lines fighting wildfires in Southern California
More than 15,000 people are helping to fight the fire Southern California. Crews arrived from across the country – and even from Mexico – to prevent further destruction. While they keep it up front, others are now performing.
It’s a hands-on deck effort in Southern California. Two at most devastating fires in the state’s history they burn an area larger than the entire city of San Francisco.
Fox tagged along with several locals who are dedicated to making these tough times easier for those fire crews flame suppression.
“We’re told some of these firefighters are drinking five or six of these drinks a day,” said Santa Monica resident Dylan Jones.

Energy drinks are just one of the items firefighters need while dealing with flames.
Rosen and his friends grew up around the Palisades. When the fire broke out, they got a message from their firefighter friend about what they needed on the front lines.
“It’s crazy… it was just ‘take this, this and this’ and [the outreach] took off,” said Santa Monica resident Evan Rosen.
So far, Rosen and his friends have raised about $10,000 for the firefighters.
He and his friends continue to make daily runs to local stores and restaurants to buy lotion, sunscreen, pain relievers and hot meals for members of the National Guard, firefighters, police, etc.

“We’re just trying to do our part, trying to help them, trying to help these firefighters. I mean, a lot of people are devastated. It’s a tough time … but the community is coming together as a city,” said Santa Monica resident Ray Manicini.
Their efforts go far beyond Santa Monica. The power of social media has taken their search to an international level.
“And my cousin Aidan re-shared one of my posts, and Venmo isn’t a thing they use in England and everyone was downloading apps. We had five or ten people sending money. I had friends from college who moved to Portugal, saying, ‘hey, what can I do from afar?’ Jones said.

The group says it will continue as long as the community is willing to help. The latest requests from the front lines include IV fluid, unscented sticks, sunscreen, energy drinks, facial wipes and hot, healthy meals.
