It was a crucial win for Arteta, who not only celebrated against Arsenal’s fiercest rivals, but also clawed back their lead over Liverpool in the Premier League title race – after Arne Slot’s side dropped points away to Nottingham Forest.
We had two big plays, we didn’t get anything, completely undeserved, but that’s football. he said Arteta on Arsenal’s win over Tottenham.
“Then you have to play the biggest game of the season at home and when everyone starts asking and talking about who did it wrong, the team reacts in a way that shows real determination, real desire, goes after the team, plays to hurt the opposition with and without the ball from the first minute.
“We conceded one goal, completely undeserved, and we still managed to generate so much in the game that we fully deserved the win. The team’s performance, regardless of their results, has been incredibly good and consistent, so if we continue to be like that, we’ll be in a good place come April.”
More good news for Arsenal, this time on the transfer front, is that they are reportedly pushing ahead with a summer deal for the Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi.
With both Thomas Partey and Jorginho entering the final months of their contracts, the Spanish midfielder has emerged as a very serious prospect. Arsenal are in advanced negotiations to sign Zubimendi and plans to trigger his £51m release clause, with journalist Steve Kay providing further background to this developing story.
Arsenal to “complete” contract with Martin Zubimendi after trying for “years”
This is claimed by Kay as a guest on KS1 TV Arsenal have been trying to sign Zubimendi for “years” and the deal is actually “done” – contrary to other reports.
“We’ve been doing it for years,” Kay said. “We know Arsenal love this player. We have said many times that he is the first signing. Liverpool almost got him last year but he decided he didn’t want to go.
“It is very close, Arsenal will sign him, they will activate his release clause in the summer of 60 million euros. Personal terms were agreed in March, but that’s a normal thing with a player, that’s the first thing you do. That was done a long time ago.
“There is nothing to do but sign on the dotted line, and then Martin Zubimendi will become an Arsenal player. He’s special.”
