Sheffield Wednesday in contact to sign 24-year-old international with ‘blister pace’

Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly made an inquiry for the signature of the international striker who has a “fast pace”, according to the journalist.

Sheffield Wednesday transfer rumours

It’s been a quiet January transfer window at Hillsborough so far and not that one Danny Rohl one would hope. The manager decided to stay in Priority club amid interest from Southampton and Hamburg and hinted at the end of 2024. Fr Wednesday is taking the “next step” and wants to “attack” the winter market.

“The most important key point is that I’m here and I’ve decided to stay here. I feel very good. In football there are a lot of rumors around a person if you’re successful – that’s the normal way.

“I am clear about what I want to do. I know that we started the journey 14 months ago and I know that my team is still hungry for more and we want to develop and take the next step. I talked a lot about what I want to do and see but also what we have to do make.

“The next opportunity is in 12 days [when the transfer window opens] and let’s see what we do. Do we really want to attack or are we just talking.”

That did not happen in the first half of the January window, although names such as the Ipswich Town full-back were mentioned in the media as targets Harry Clarke and Brisbane Roar striker Thomas Waddingham.

It now appears as though Wednesday have made a move for the speedy striker, but they haven’t received the response they were hoping for.

Sheffield Wednesday have made a bid for Rangers striker Rabbi Matonda, according to reporter Pete O’Rourke.

However, despite interest from the Owls and second-tier Sunderland, Rangers have agreed a deal for the Wales international to join an unnamed European club.

Matondo, 24, is a Wales international who is on the books at Ibrox from 2022 and has been praised by pundits for his “fast pace”. Chris Boydwho previously said:

“With the pace he has, he was lightning. We haven’t seen enough of that in a Rangers shirt, but you just get the feeling that, in the last couple of weeks… maybe because of Ryan Kent before, he was always kind of thinking ‘I’m not going to make the team’, but with Ryan Kent moving on and nobody really cementing that place in at the moment, and there is one thing with Rabbi Matonda – he has lightning speed.”

Able to play on the left wing, right wing or as a second striker, Matondo could be a handy addition for the second half of the campaign under Rohl, but he will have to look elsewhere for a final third reinforcement.
