Celtic are making inquiries to sign the exciting star who could be their next Tim Weah
Despite the excellent season so far, Celtic safe Brendan Rodgers he is not satisfied, he is asking for reinforcements in the January transfer window.
On Tuesday night, the Hoops needed a 93rd-minute penalty from Arne Engles to salvage a 3-3 draw with Dundee to cap a chaotic night at Dens Park.
The Celts were involved in an even more remarkable 3-3 draw last month, defeating their fierce rivals Rangers after penalties in the League Cup final, with Kasper Schmeichel as Hampden’s hero.
Given that they currently have a 16-point advantage at the top Scottish Premiershipthere is a lot of focus on Celtic Champions League campaign, currently 21st in the giant league table, on course to reach the knockout stages, ahead of a crucial meeting with bottom of the competition BSC Young Boys next midweek.
Before then, could Rodgers have a new signing or two to parade around Parkhead?
Celtic want to sign the star on loan
According to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas and Anthony JosephCeltic have ‘enquired’ about signing Louie Barry on loan Aston Villa until the end of the season, facing numerous competitors EFL Championship clubs.
They add that the Villa manager Unai Emery plans to ‘assess’ the youngster in training before making a concrete decision about his future.
Still only 21, Barry has already had an interesting career, first making headlines when he joined Barcelona legendary la Masia academy from West Bromwich Albion in 2019, before returning to England a year later, signing for Aston Villa for a reported £880,000.
Then he was back in the spotlight in January 2021; with the entire Villa first team and coaching staff in isolation due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the U23s were tasked with facing Premier League champions Liverpool in the fourth-round tie, with Barry firing the youngsters in front, an incredible moment, even if the Reds eventually fought back to win 4-1.
Louie Barry’s career goals record
Villa sent Barry out on various loan spells, playing for Ipswich, Swindon, Milton Keynes, Salford and Stockport, playing for the Hatters this season, scoring 15 goals in just 24 appearancesnamed EFL League One player of the month in both August and November as Dave Challinor’s side chase promotion.

As noted, even midway through this campaign, Barry has already scored more goals than ever before, making the step up to England’s third tier, potentially poised to step up to an even higher level of football.
Daniel Storey of i Paper notes that he was Barcelona’s “first English wonder” and Barry himself stated “I loved my time at Barcelona… but I decided to come back closer to home [when] we sensed that Covid-19 might be a big deal.”
So could a move north of Hadrian’s Wall be the next step in Barry’s young career?
Why Louie Barry would be a good signing for Celtic
Celtic are always looking for extra attacking firepower; in the era of five substitutions, even if Nicolas Kühn and Daizen Maeda are first-choice wingers, Rodgers always wants quality options he can bring off the bench.
Apparently with Luis Palma on departure and Yang Hyun-jun rarely suggests he is up to standard, Barry would certainly get a chance as one of Celtic’s wide forwards, or potentially as one of a double eight.
The Hoops have certainly had successful loan spells in the past as well, with Adam IdahoPaulo Bernardo, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Odsonne Édouard all initially shone on loan, before their deals became permanent.
With that unlikely to be the case with Barry, could he have a similar impact to Tim Weah’s brief stint in Glasgow six years ago?
Weah arrived on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2019, aged just 18 at the time, but made an immediate impact, scoring in his first two appearances for the club against St Mirren and then Airdrieonians.
He would go on to score four times in just 17 appearances, becoming fan favorite while the Hoops won treble-treble.
The American became a star for the USMNT, now a key player for Juventusso if Barry arrives this month, he will also be hoping to make a big, if brief, impact at Celtic, just like Weah.
