Devdutt Padikkal breaks the record of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli in list A cricket

Devdutt Padikkal he etched his name in the history books by surpassing the records he had set Ruturaj Gaikwad and Virat Kohli in List A cricket. Outstanding performance by Karnataka batsmen in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. it cemented his status as one of India’s most promising talents.

A record breaking performance by Devdutt Padikkal

In the semi-final clash against Haryana, Padikkal played a crucial knock of 86 runs off 113 balls, hitting 8 fours and a six. His innings propelled Karnataka to successfully chase down the target of 238 runs and secure a place in the final of the tournament. Notably, Padikkal also scored his seventh consecutive fifty-plus score in the tournament, equaling his own record set in the 2021-22 season.

Padikkal has now amassed over 2,000 runs in List A cricket, boasting an incredible average of 82.38 – surpassing the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad (58.16), Michael Bevan (57,86), Virat Kohli (57.05) and AB de Villiers (53,47).

“It’s a format I enjoy batting in”: Padikkal

Talking about his innings after the match against Haryana, Padikkal said, “It is a format I enjoy batting in, whenever I come back to bat for Karnataka it is always a pleasure. Watch me get on the front foot, it was low and me and Smaran managed to get a single and continue with the score.”

He added: “Try to move your body towards the ball, if you’re hanging back you’re going to be in trouble and I felt he was hitting beautifully through that phase.”

Padikkal was part of the India A team that toured Australia recently, where he played a game against the Prime Minister’s XI before getting a chance to play in the Perth Test. WITH Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma unavailable, Padikkal got a chance to make it into the playing XI. However, he could not capitalize on the opportunity, scoring 0 and 25 in the opening Test of the five-match series.
