Garcia DROPS Tip: “Can’t wait” – Is Lomachenko or Lopez next?
Ryan Garcia posted today on X, saying that he “I can’t wait” to tell fans who he’s fighting next. He says the fans can’t tell he’s taking “weak fights,” which is a signal that he’s NOT fighting a rematch with Devin Haney next because that match would be seen as weak by the fans.
De La Hoya’s influence
The potential opponents that many believe Ryan (24-1, 20 KO) could face next are these fighters;
– Teofimo Lopez
– Vasilij Lomachenko
Of the two, Teofimo (21-1, 13 KOs) would be the most likely as Golden Boy Promotions boss Oscar De La Hoya has said he wants him next for Ryan. Teofimo was also in London for the Ring Awards party and met Turki Al-Sheikh. It’s an easy fight, because Teo has no opponent, and he fights in the same weight class as Ryan at 140.
Teofimo still holds the WBO light welterweight title and is one of the most popular fighters in the division. It would be a great fight and the promotion would be huge because Teo can help get the fans interested. It wouldn’t just be Ryan doing all the hard work, like when he was fighting Devin Haney.
Kingry and Haney will probably fight again in 2025, provided Devin and Bill don’t try to boss Ryan around by acting like they’re the A side and insisting he agree to VADA testing. Boxing fans remain interested in their second fight despite the one-sided nature of their clash last April.
Avoiding mud
If you’re Garcia, you might be better off washing your hands of Haney and moving on forever. If he fights him, he’ll likely tarnish the promotion by reminding fans and media that Kingry tested positive for Ostarine in his previous fight. Devin will probably bring it up so often that Ryan’s name will be dragged through the mud many times when the fight takes place. There would be no victory because his reputation would be tarnished.
Clean break
There is no way forward if fans think Garcia is a cheat because Haney has told them over and over again that he was dirty for the previous fight. In the long run, it wouldn’t be worth Ryan fighting Devin. It would be fine if Haney didn’t talk about Garcia’s positive test, but he already raised a storm about it last week during an interview at his training in London.
I can’t wait for you to see who I’m up against 👀👀
One thing you can’t say about me is that I always take weak fights
Only one really does
