Two late goals earned Brentford a 2-2 draw against Manchester City on Tuesday.
A wasteful first half in which both sides created a handful of smart chances. City’s positional dominance looked set to return as they managed 20 touches inside the Brentford penalty area, but could only translate that into two shots on goal before the break.
Savinho hit the post five minutes from the restart and Erling Haaland should have opened the scoring with a header soon after but, after Mikkel Damsgaard saw his shot ruled out for offside, City took the lead they deserved when Phil Foden’s superb finish volley to convert from Kevin De Bruyne’s whipped cross.
Nathan Ake cleared off the line to preserve City’s lead, which was doubled with 12 minutes remaining when Foden curled home the rebound to give Pep Guardiola’s side a seemingly insurmountable lead.
However, Brentford refused to lie down. In the 82nd minute, Yoane Wiss pulled one back for the hosts, before Christian Norgaard scored to equalize in stoppage time.
The Bees even thought they had won in the 95th minute, only for Ake to clear another shot off the line to rescue a point for a shell-shocked City.
