The network, which operates mostly on Telegram, has been linked to a series of violent attacks, officials say.
United States officials have imposed sanctions on an online network known as the Terrorgram Collective, labeling it a “terrorist group” for promoting violent white supremacy around the world.
The State Department said statement on Monday labeled the group, which operates primarily on the Telegram social network, and three of its leaders as “specially designated global terrorists.”
“The group promotes violent white supremacism, incites attacks on perceived opponents, and provides guidance and instructional materials on tactics, methods, and objectives,” the State Department explained.
“The group also glorifies those who have carried out such attacks.”
The State Department has accused the group of facilitating attacks and attempted violence, including a 2022 shooting outside an LGBTQ bar in Slovakia, a planned 2024 attack on energy facilities in New Jersey and an attack in August knife attack in a mosque in Turkey.
“The United States remains deeply concerned about the racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist (REMVE) threat worldwide and is committed to countering the transnational components of violent white supremacism,” the department said.
The designation freezes all US-based assets held by the group and prohibits Americans from having financial dealings with those sanctioned.
The three people who were sanctioned on Monday are the alleged leaders of the Terrorgram channel: Ciro Daniel Amorim Ferreira from Brazil, Noah Licul from Croatia and Hendrik-Wahl Muller from South Africa.
In September, the American officials arrested they also identified two Americans as the leaders of the group: Dallas Erin Humber from California and Matthew Robert Allison from Idaho.
Officials packed them with leading a “transnational terrorist group”, as well as distributing bomb-making instructions, conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, and calling for hate crimes and the murder of federal officials.
Hannah Gais, a senior research analyst at the Southern Poverty Law Center, has written about Terrorgram for years.
She wrote in analysis after his arrest in 2024, the online group became “a hub for an increasingly decentralized wing of the white power movement.”
“Its members tended to dissuade others from joining the IDP [in real life] groups”, she explained in a separate publish on social networks.
According to Gais, Terrorgram’s goal was to encourage “accelerationism” as an alternative to political avenues to promote their beliefs.
“Proponents of the acceleration of white power seek to bring about the collapse of the supposedly anti-white ‘System’ through violence and other means, including attacks on infrastructure, with the hope that this will lead to a National Socialist state,” Gais wrote.
