Brentford vs Man City: Preview, Predictions and Lineups
Manchester City look to maintain their rise in form when they face Brentford away in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
City’s remarkable slump to the end of 2024 has been followed by three straight wins, although Pep Guardiola’s side are likely to be fighting for a top-four finish rather than the league title. Back-to-back wins over Leicester and West Ham, who sacked their manager days after the defeat, hardly suggest a major revival.
At the weekend, however, they were extremely ruthless, as they said eight were passed by Salford in the second division in the third round of the FA Cup.
Brentford have only the Premier League to worry about during the second half of the season after they were surprised by Plymouth in west London on Saturday. Thomas Frank’s struggling rotation has cost the Bees in both domestic cup competitions, but perhaps the Dane’s focus is on securing Brentford’s first taste of European football.
However, they are currently 11th after enduring a difficult few weeks. As of Tuesday, the hosts are currently seven points behind the sixth-placed Cityzens, who have lost three of their previous five league games.

Brentford’s dip in form can be attributed to their long injury list which will not be shortened by City’s visit.
Josh Dasilva, Ethan Pinnock, Kristoffer Ajer, Ben Mee, Aaron Hickey, Igor Thiago, Gustavo Nunes and Ryan Trevitt are all out injured for the hosts.
Frank left Yoane Wiss and Bryan Mbeum for Saturday FA Cup loss, but the pair still entered the fray in an attempt to save the tie. Both will start Tuesday along with the speedy Kevin Schade.
Rico Henry also made a long-awaited return to action this weekend and was included in the manager’s XI, but will drop to the bench in midweek with Keane Lewis-Potter starting at left-back.
Brentford predicted line-up against Man City (4-3-3): Flekken; Roerslev, Van den Berg, Collins, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Janelt, Damsgaard; Mbeumo, Wissa, Schade.
Kyle Walker’s desire for a new challenge means he is unlikely to feature until his future is settled, with interest coming from Milan. The veteran defender is completely out of the squad over the weekend.
Guardiola has several big names to bring back into his XI, although James McAtee has pushed for him Premier League minutes scoring a hat-trick against Salford.
Oscar Bobb has returned to training and is nearing a return, but will not feature in west London, while City are still without Rodrigo, Ruben Dias and John Stones.
Predicted line-up of Man City against Brentford (4-1-4-1): Ortega; Lewis, Akanji, Ake, Guardiol; Kovačić; Savinho, De Bruyne, Foden, Doku; Haaland.
Brentford’s home form has been key to their success at the start of the season, but they have lost their last three games at the Gtech in all competitions. So Tuesday’s trip may not be as daunting for City as it may have seemed a month ago.
While City were ruthlessly efficient at the weekend, their recent Premier League wins hardly suggested this was a team capable of making a run. They boast weaknesses that Brentford’s skilful front line can exploit and the hosts should have success under the lights.
However, the injured Bees are working on breathing and lack confidence ahead of Tuesday’s game. Against teams like City, they tend to give up too much control and are vulnerable to opposition barrages. Sustained pressure here will prove crucial to City’s victory.
