Fires in LA: Los Angeles Lakers NBA coach JJ Redick lost his home in devastating wildfires | NBA news
Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick confirmed that his family lost their home in the devastating wildfires earlier this week.
Wildfires continue to burn in the US city with at least 11 people dead in the fires and 153,000 people under evacuation orders.
Redick said the rental house burned down Tuesday while the Lakers were on the road in Dallas. Redick’s wife, Chelsea, and their two sons were safely away from the neighborhood, but Redick drove to the area Wednesday to see the shocking effect of the fire.
“I’m not sure I’ve cried or wailed like that in a few years,” Redick said.
“I was not prepared for what I saw.
“It’s complete devastation and devastation. I had to take a different route home, but I went through most of the village, and everything was gone. I don’t think you can ever prepare for something like that. Our home is gone.”
Redick, who joined the Lakers last June, has been renting a home in the Pacific Palisades area while they decide where to settle permanently in Los Angeles.
“Everything we owned that was of any importance to us in almost 20 years of living together as a couple and 10 years of parenting was in that house,” Redick said.
“There are certain things that you can’t replace, that will never be replaced. Material things are everything. My family and I have worked through our own side, the personal side of losing a home, and you never wish that on anyone. It’s a terrible feeling to lose your home.”
Redick is back at work with the Lakers, whose Saturday game against the San Antonio Spurs has been postponed. Their previous match against Charlotte was also canceled due to fire.
The NFL has already moved the Los Angeles Rams’ wild-card playoff game on Monday against the Minnesota Vikings in Arizona.
